🌟 Strawberry Vale Preschool Weekly Highlights 🌈

Ahoy, Strawberry Vale families! This week, our preschool turned into a bustling hub of exploration, creativity, and sheer joy! Here’s a sprinkle of the magical moments we shared:

🍄 Nature’s Classroom Unfolds: Our yard revealed a secret adventure as the children discovered a decomposing log. With curiosity sparked, they chipped away at the “white stuff,” uncovering the wonders of decomposition. Imagine chipping away and creating a preschool-built canoe to float in our pond. Could we? Should we? Stay tuned!

🌳 Spring Awakens: With the forest shaking off its winter nap, we embarked on a journey to identify plants, trees, fungi, and lichen. Connecting with nature has never been more enchanting!

👟 Leap of Confidence: A new stepping stone course challenged our little adventurers, transforming cautious steps into bold leaps. Witnessing their confidence soar was a sight to behold, a reminder of the beauty in embracing risk with a sprinkle of safety.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate Adventures on the High Seas: Captain and his crew navigated treacherous waters, facing cannon fire and ship repairs with bravery. Our preschoolers’ imagination sailed far and wide, proving there’s no limit to where their minds can go.

🐸 Frogs’ Week Peek: From rescue missions to pond explorations and tree planting, our Frogs’ week was filled with environmental heroism and construction marvels. A Lego horse rescue turned into an eco-adventure, showcasing our children’s big hearts and boundless energy.

🎼 Musical Mavericks: Has your home been filled with the sound of emerging band stars? Our preschool band has been practicing hard, creating symphonies of joy (and a bit of noise) that echo through Strawberry Vale.

💌 Sprinkles of Kindness: On Pink Shirt Day, our circle time turned into a brainstorm of benevolence, sharing ideas on spreading kindness far and wide. Our “Sprinkles of Kindness” donut is bursting with heartfelt ideas from our thoughtful preschoolers.

🌧️ Weather Wonders and Sandbox Architects: From puddle collectors to sandbox road engineers, every dry and rainy day is an opportunity for discovery and creation. Even a downpour can’t dampen our spirits!

👫 Big Buddy Day and Pirate Day: Get ready for a week of friendship and adventure! Big Buddy Day and Pirate Day are on the horizon, promising days filled with camaraderie and imaginative play. Remember, no pirate weapons needed; we’re all about safe, dramatic play.

🚀✨ A Stellar Journey Back to Strawberry Vale Preschool! ✨🚀

Welcome back, little astronauts! 🌌 After a cozy winter break, our preschool transformed into a buzzing space station. The “under the loft area” launched into a new realm, turning into a spacecraft complete with astronaut suits, a telescope, and a control station. 🚀 Our journey through the cosmos didn’t stop there; the space theme soared across the room with a wooden rocket ship, moon rocks shimmering at the light table, and a galaxy of stories told through painted rocks.

Despite the chill limiting our outdoor adventures on Thursday, we brought the universe of fun indoors with an extended circle time. We soared through movement, games, and the echoing laughter of reading one of our favorite tales, “Mortimer” by Robert Munch. The children became drumming stars, syncing their beats with the book’s chorus, filling the room with joyous rhythm. 📚✨

🐸 Frogs Peek into Thursday Afternoon: A Construction of Creativity

The cold may have shortened our outdoor time, but it sparked an indoor masterpiece. A fort of epic proportions emerged, crafted from every toy in sight, draped in blankets, and guarded by a playful obstacle course. Navigating “the fort” became an adventure, showcasing our little architects’ boundless imagination and teamwork. 🏰

❄️ A Week of Snowy Delights and Warm Welcomes

The snow became our canvas and playground, from sledding escapades to crafting snow angels. We’re thrilled to introduce new students to our vibrant community, along with new support joining us for her ECE practicum. Together, we’re exploring new horizons, both in the snowy outdoors and the heart of our classrooms.

🐞 Ladybugs’ and Frogs’ Week of Discovery

From snowy crafts to volcanic experiments, our week was a tapestry of learning and laughter. The Ladybugs painted the last of the snow while uncovering hidden gems in our Fairy Garden. The Frogs embraced their scientific curiosity with volcano creations, letting their imaginations erupt in colorful expressions.

As we ventured from the realms of space to the wonders of our own snowy backyard, the week at Strawberry Vale Preschool was nothing short of magical. From building forts to creating art, every moment was a journey of discovery, friendship, and fun. Here’s to more adventures ahead! 🌈🌟

Dive Into Our Preschool’s Whimsical World of Wonder!

🐞 Ladybugs’ Lively Landscapes: Our cheery Ladybugs had a blast at the “Big School” playground, bouncing on a big, blue ball with laughter echoing around. Busy builders are shaping our school’s future with exciting new structures. A warm, sunny welcome to our newest friend, adding more sparkle to our Ladybug family!

💒 Ladybugs’ Lovely Learning: Joyful wedding bells rang in our enchanted Rose Gardens, celebrating friendship and love. Rainy days brought puddle-jumping delights and forest games, with Teacher Matt turning every moment into an adventure. We played What Time is it Mr. Wolf and “Jump the Wild River.”

🐸 Frogs’ Fantastic Month: Our creative bakery was buzzing with the scent of blueberry and milk cakes, some fetching a million dollaroos! Sipping “goose-berry juice” in their vibrant feathers, our Frogs flitted around, forming precious bonds with friends from various classes.

🐸 Frogs’ Fascinating Fun: Our little builders and artists crafted wonders with Marble Works and painted dreams. Transforming into dragons with tales of dragon families and growth, they soared through their playful skies.

🐻 Bears’ Brave Month: With campfires ablaze, our heroic Bears and Fire Fighters saved the day! The entire art area became a chaotic canvas of creativity. The joy was worth the mess that comes from unfettered access to art supplies! Discussions around our Family Photo Wall warmed our hearts with the beauty of diverse families.

🌱 Tadpoles’ Terrific Fortnight: Alarm bells rang, and our little detectives donned eye spy glasses, embarking on a thrilling hunt for the missing fire extinguisher. Posters were made to help find the missing extinguisher. Amidst excavator construction and creative play, our Tadpoles built ramps with planks and a picnic table.

🐻 Bears’ Joyful Weeks: Smiles and giggles filled our days as our Bears dug for fairy gems and dressed up with extra giggles. Painting turned into a canvas of colorful exploration, they even painted themselves a bit. Undeterred by the cooler days, our little ones splashed and played at the rain barrel and sandbox.

🌱 Tadpoles’ Welcoming Weeks: A new Tadpole joined our pond, bringing new ripples of joy and friendship. Tabletop activities became zones of quiet concentration and shared discoveries.

🍪 Bears’ & Tadpoles’ Gingerbread Adventure: The aroma of gingerbread led us on a merry chase with clues sprinkled like magic. As we decorated cookies and crafted with cinnamon glue, our imaginations baked up stories of fun and friendship.

🌰 A Little Tree in the Making: Students’ curiosity blossomed as they planted a seed that had begun to split, watching with wonder as nature unfolds its story. We may even see the beginnings of a tree if they forget about it or stop themselves from digging it up before spring.

Thank you for joining us in this colorful kaleidoscope of play, learning, and laughter, where every day is a new adventure in our preschool paradise! 🎨🌼🌈

We are overflowing with gratitude after the fantastic evening at “The Rack” Bistro for our preschool fundraiser. Your presence and enthusiasm made the event a resounding success. Let’s relive some of the wonderful moments from the night!

🍔 Burgers to Rave About: First off, a big round of applause for the star of our menu – the Burger and Beverage combination! And let’s not forget the equally impressive vegan burger, which was a hit among many of our guests for its delicious flavor.

🎶 Musical Bingo Magic: Our musical bingo was a standout success, blending quick thinking with your impressive music knowledge. It was a joy to watch everyone eagerly fill their bingo sheets, song after song.

🐻 Hunter, Bear, Maiden Tiebreaker: In the event of a bingo tie, ‘Hunter, Bear, Maiden’ provided barrels of laughs and playful competition. Watching everyone engage in this full-body version of rock, paper, scissors was a treat!

🏆 Prizes and Joyful Celebrations: A huge congratulations to all our prize winners! Your joy and excitement were infectious, contributing wonderfully to the festive atmosphere.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Strengthening Our Community: Above all, the spirit of community shone the brightest. Seeing parents and friends of our preschool children come together was truly heartwarming. It’s these moments that reinforce the strong bonds within our community.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support and participation. This event was a beautiful reminder of the vibrant, caring community we’re all a part of. We look forward to many more such joyous gatherings!

Enjoy these photos of our attendees! (Don’t worry, we got parent permissions for sharing their photos 😉)

🦕 Dino Delight in Our Classroom! 🌟 This Month, our mini paleontologists found tiny dinosaurs in our sandbox-turned-dino land, complete with dried peas and foam blocks. In the art area, creativity soared with star tracers, shaping young minds and crayon skills!

🌲 Forest Friday Finale! 🌳 Our week wrapped up with a thrilling Forest Friday. Imagination took flight with DIY flying monsters (safety first on those magical rides!).

🐞 Ladybugs’ Shape Spectacular! 🔵⬛️ This week was all about shapes for the Ladybugs. Tiny nails and hammers met cork boards, creating colorful patterns and scenes. Plus, a shape-fitting challenge added extra fun!

🛠️ Build & Bake Extravaganza! 🎂 Inside and outside, our little builders were busy with legos and blocks. Over at the Bakery Sandbox, pretend baking took center stage – blueberry muffins, pumpkin pies, and a special “5 milk, 5 hay, 2 eggs” cake recipe!

⚔️ Watch Out for the Fight Master! ⚔️ In our yard, the Fight Master was playfully sneaking sleeping potion into juice jugs. And, a big effort to pump up a giant beach ball kept everyone engaged.

🎵 Outdoor Band and Dino Adventures 🎷 Our Frogs had a blast with outdoor band practice, exploring various instruments. Plus, a classic game of “What time is it Mr. Wolf?” paired with playdough dino nests and imaginative sea voyages!

🏠 Dream Houses and Gardens in the Making 🌸 A future house drawing session let the children envision their dream homes, complete with lush gardens and serene ponds.

What a week of exploration, creativity, and fun! 🌈✨

Chuck a puck – March 9th, 2024

November was a successful back to school month. Every student learned every game at the school. They play and learn, learn and play. Our teachers are helping the new kids transition into a completely new world of learning. They aren’t the only ones helping, all of the returning students are showing our wonderful newcomers how wonderful learning can be!

In the past month, we have pretended to be firefighters, horses, dinosaurs.

In the past month we have learned new songs. Even invented a few! Don’t be afraid to ask your child to sing a song they know. Trust me, the song doesn’t have to exist before that moment for it to be absolutely delightful example of their development!

Summer has been a wonderful time here as we prepare for a new school season.

Summer Camp is fun for everyone, especially when they get to play with what it might be like to be a “Cowpoke”. The kids spent time rounding up horses, dressing in a rancher style, and setting up camp for those brisk nights on the range.

Co-op spirit at its best when grandfather and granddaughter “chip” in to replenish the yard’s surface. 10 yards of woodchips and many hands, current and alumni, pitch in together to take care or our little red schoolhouse.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone come the school year! So many new kids joining us in our Red School House.

Reminders/Save the date*

We’ve been counting down the days, 21 to be exact, waiting for our chicks to hatch. Our patience was rewarded and we have nine chicks! A lot of them hatched during the night, so many didn’t get to see the process of their hatching, but a few were lucky to witness a chick coming out of its shell. After spending at least one day in the incubator to dry off their wet feathers, we moved our chicks to their new home in the classroom. We will be taking care of them for about two weeks until they are rehomed. Grown-ups, be sure to pop in and see them while they are here.

The Preschool Pizza Palace has served over 100 pizzas this week. It is one bustling restaurant. Princesses and Fairies have been known to eat here. But be careful of the customers that eat the hot sauce straight out of the bottle. Or the ones that like to add mustard and ketchup to their pizza’s. I’m not too sure about them. lol. I personally like a pepperoni, mushroom and green pepper pizza. And this restaurant serves it up quick and hot.

Thankfully, we filled our rainbarrel and we had some great helpers water our boot garden. The children planted beans in old, holey boots, a great way to reuse and recycle old boots. We are looking forward to watch them grow and climb our fence over then next couple of months.

Our community, painting banners were in need of some attention, so the children have helped paint them green. This is our first step in our process. Be sure to watch for more development on this grassy, green background.

Reminders

Beer and Burger night: Monday May 29th @ 6pm – at The Rack Bistro 2345 Millstream rd

Can you believe how March has flown by?!

We were so lucky this week to enjoy a trip to Rosedale Park for lots of climbing, swinging, spinning and serving up fries in the little wooden house.

Teacher Gail introduced chair yoga to the class and we had a great time, twisting and stretching our bodies. There were some close games at snakes and ladders! The game offers so many learning opportunities; patience in waiting for a turn, one-to-one counting, number recognition, accepting disappointments and cheering for successes.

With warmer weather, we filled the rain barrel which made the sandbox THE place to be. There were rivers, waterfalls and interesting soups created. Spring is coming! we were able to stop and talk with some happy bees out in the field.

Important Reminders*

The Meg Boorman Photography photo shoot is coming up on April 15th, you get 8 family photos during a 15 minute shoot.

February News

There is so much to explore and discover at preschool. Water, shaving cream and liquid colour make great exploration. Not to mention the development of fine motor skills when using the pipettes.

Mr. Mike brought in and shared with the class eagle feathers that he found in Haida Gawii and he read stories, such as The Eagle Feather, at story-snack to the children.

The children had the right idea to build a campfire on our chilling morning! It was a bit disappointing to the teachers that there wasn’t a lot of heat though. haha.

Dragon play is ever changing in our yard. We’ve had chasing dragons, flying dragons, dragons that lay eggs and others that protect these eggs from predators. However, the latest development is the dragons are now eating their captured prey! See in the photo, poor Owen’s legs are getting chewed off. Lucky for him, they grew back pretty quickly. 🙂

Teacher Matt is back! The children loved playing with him in the forest, which quickly evolved to playing “What time is it Mr. Wolf”, “Red light, green light” and several games of tag in the field. Welcome Back!

Every Friday, at the end of our day, we sit down and pass a “talking item” around the circle. Each person has the opportunity to share what they are grateful for this past week. I’ve introduced this for a couple of reasons, to bring the First People’s sharing circle into practice and that cultivating gratitude creates happiness. Here are a few thoughts shared this week:

I’m grateful for:

– My mom picking me up today

– that after school I get to spend some time with my mom

– playing dragons

– after school I get to go to Flying Squirrel

Today we didn’t let the rain stop us from meeting new friends at our open house. We brought out all our favourite activities and toys to share.

Space was explored this week by creating planet paintings, crafting a group outer space poster, and watching a slide show of all the planets. I see some future Astronauts!
Hello ice cream! Be sure to stop by and order your favourite flavour and our friends will serve it up with a smile 🙂
Come and enjoy some forest stew served up on forest Fridays. Looks delicious!

Spring Season

Welcome to Strawberry Vale preschool. The little house with little rising stars. Spring is finally here!

Peek of the Month

May was full of fun. Recently our little cuties rocked out on bucket drums. Outside play has been grand as usual. Inspired by forest exploration and examining real bird nests in the classroom, the children tried their hand at building bird nests using a clay base and small twigs, dry grasses, leaves, lichen and moss from our forest to reinforce the nest and create a cozy spot for the birds. Our little kiddos also tried out experiments with cups of water with shaving cream on top, coloured vinegar and a pinch of baking soda.  Everyone was excited to see the mini explosion of colorful fizzyness! They played with big heavy buckets of water and had loads of fun running around screaming at the top of their lungs. They pretended to be astronauts that blasted off into space from our classroom space station which will turn into something new this upcoming week. We have been keeping an eye on our individual plants starting to sprout, everyone is so excited to see what their baby plants will turn into. We set up a doctors office where you can come with injured dolls and animals to get their $5000 check up… It’s very expensive but for a good cause.  The kids also got to meet a real live beekeeper! What will the next month bring? Stay tuned for the next fun update 🙂

Fun Snacks for the Kiddo’s

Sometimes it can be tricky to get our littles to eat fruit. But they will suddenly want it when it’s served to them in a WAFFLE CONE! That’s all you need to do. – waffle cones and the fresh fruit of your choice like berries, fresh slices of peaches, or seedless grapes. Inside the cone, line it with parchment paper before putting the fruit in or else it will get soggy. Pro tip: peel and dice(tiny) some cucumber and sneak some in there for a splash of veggie, shhhhhh don’t tell anyone ;P unless they like veggies hahaha

If there’s a healthy (peanut-free) snack that you and your precious little one would like to share with everyone, please feel free to email me at tiabereska@gmail.com.

Enrollment Current Availability

For the upcoming new school year starting in september. Ladybugs – FULL (waitlist is being taken) Bears – 2 open spaces and Frogs – up to 11 spaces available. Please contact svpenrollment@gmail.com to reserve your spot for the upcoming new term

Fun Facts

  1. A group of pandas is called an “embarrassment”. Probably because they are so silly and clumsy.
  2. Just need 5 to 30 minutes of rest in 24 hours. I gotta say, this momma is super jealous… imagine all the things we could do if this were the case for humans lol
  3. In one gram of soil, there are about 10 million bacteria living in it. I’ll never look at dirt the same again :/
  4. A queen bee lays about 1,500 eggs in a day. Busy lady!

Spring Season

Welcome to Strawberry Vale preschool. The little house with little rising stars. Spring is finally here!

We have moved back to outside days and the weather will be chilly for a while yet so please bring gloves, booty’s, rain gear, warm hats and spare clothing in their backpacks in case they get wet. Please be advised that this is the season of runny noses and coughs, please assess your kiddos health prior to drop off, children are more contagious before symptoms hit. Now that it’s getting warmer out, just remember that we have a NO FLIP FLOP rule at preschool. Closed, strapped sandals and crocs are fine but flip flops are not safe in our environment. Clothing should be easily layered to suit our unpredictable sunny, wet, windy days. Please consider sunscreen, hats and glasses as the weather gets warmer/sunnier.

Peek of the month

Our little kiddos love to have dance parties and imaginary play in the little house.

The pro mini dancers and dress up masters also like to do this outside as well because spring weather is finally allowing it. The munchkins love to sit in the sandbox and play with the water, so even though it’s nice, maybe send them with rain pants so they can comfortably play without becoming too much of a soggy mess.

We started experimenting with cornstarch and water. When put together, it makes this magical, fun goop that you can pick up and squeeze like a solid and then turns to slippery gooey liquid when you release the pressure on it. Loads of fun, but I recommend this is played with outside as it can get a tad messy. Messy = fun! We would like to give a big shout out to the super generous time and effort of Amelia’s family in Bears…They made a little planter box to paint, plant wildflowers and peas in, for each of our mini humans. Huge thank you! We even packed up our wagon and headed through the forest paths to Rosedale Park. We found beautiful flowers and treasures. Wildlife has graced our little yard, lizards are everywhere. They are so fast and hard to catch but makes for a fun game of chase (don’t worry, these teeny, tiny dinosaurs do not bite and will not cause any harm to our little superheroes)

Fundraising

At Strawberry vale preschool, we are a cooperative school, meaning, we fund-raise each year to help pay for necessities, maintenance and for new things for the school.

SUPER HUGE THANK YOU to the amazing families that helped with the construction of our brand new Gazebo!  It looks amazing and will give our little tots a large dry/shaded area to sit and play on rainy/sunny days. Thank you all so much!

Another HUGE thank you to our awesome families for the fresh, new alder chips that replenished our yard! It has helped keep our yard less muddy. Your time and commitment to our little school is very much appreciated. We couldn’t have done this without the help of our families. Your teamwork keeps this little school thriving. Thank you!

Fun snacks for the kiddo’s

Everyone knows, our little heroes love to snack (parents as well haha) One of our little students would like to share what she loves to snack on that’s healthy but tasty.  Pepperoni, dried fruit, yogurt with jam (sounds interesting and super tasty!), applesauce, apple slices, corn chips, and jam sandwiches. Thank you for your amazing suggestions. 🙂

If there’s a healthy (peanut-free) snack that you and your precious little one would like to share with everyone, please feel free to email me at tiabereska@gmail.com.

Fun facts:

  1. Flamingos are not pink. They are born grey, their diet of brine shrimp and blue green algae contains a natural pink dye called canthaxanthin that makes their feathers pink.
  2. The platypus is one of the few living mammals to produce venom. The venom is made in venom glands that are connected to hollow spurs on their hind legs
  3. Roosters prevent themselves from going deaf due to their own loud crowing, by tilting their head backs when they crow, which covers their ear canal completely, serving as a built-in ear-plug.
  4. Baby elephants suck on the end of their trunks for comfort. Just like babies and young children suck their thumbs, awwww.

Spring Season

Welcome to Strawberry Vale preschool. The little house with little super heros.

Peek of the Month

The sun is finally starting to show her beautiful face and warmth, which makes play time outside much easier and enjoyable for our little kiddos. Loving our time connecting with nature and the land in our Forest. Huge thank you to Teacher Jen’s mother for adjusting our costumes to make them outdoor friendly. Our kiddo’s really love dress up time, we always have quite the mix of prince/princess, police officers, superheroes and butterfly fairies.

Flowers are starting to peek out of our planter boxes, so spring is right around the corner! One of our fabulous neighbours gifted us long tube-like boxes, and the children had a blast playing a new game we like to call shoot ball … Our little’s loved it and had such a blast, Teacher Matt got silly and would “accidentally” bump into it sending balls flying everywhere. It was a big hit. Our new outdoor gazebo shelter has arrived and was assembled over spring break. Yay!  We would like to say a big thank you to the families that offered their time and skills to help build it. …Looking forward to having our picnic table and backpack area covered again, no more soggy kiddos!

Note parents: We have moved back to outside days and the weather will be chilly for a while yet so please bring gloves, booty’s, rain gear, warm hats and spare clothing in their backpacks in case they get wet. Please be advised that this is the season of runny noses and coughs, please assess your kiddos health prior to drop off.

Fun Snacks for the Kiddo’s

Easter Chick Eggs

Ingredients

6 hard-boiled eggs, peeled

1 tablespoon mayonnaise

½ tablespoon and ¾ teaspoon yellow mustard

salt and ground black pepper to taste

½ carrot, cut into rounds

6 slices canned black olives, or as needed

Step 1

Slice through the top 1/3 of each egg, ensuring some of the yolk is included in the slice. Carefully remove the egg yolk from the bottom portion of the egg using a spoon and transfer to a bowl.

Step 2

Mix egg yolks, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper together in a bowl. Fill a piping bag or a plastic bag with a corner snipped with the egg yolk mixture. Pipe egg yolk mixture into the hollowed egg whites creating the ‘chick’, ensuring there is enough filling to add ‘eyes’ and a ‘beak.’

Step 3

Slice small wedges out of the carrot rounds creating 12 ‘beaks’. Add a ‘beak’ to each ‘chick’.

Step 4

Slice olive pieces into small squares to be used as ‘eyes.’ Add 2 ‘eyes’ to each ‘chick.’ Place the egg tops onto each ‘chick’ to look like a chick peeking out of the egg.

Winter Season

Welcome to Strawberry Vale preschool. The little house with little shining stars. All our youngsters had a great Christmas break. We got snow and It was magical.

Peek of the Month

Our friends are really liking Superheroes lately. Children in the morning, super heroes by afternoon. Capes, flying around and saving the day in multiple ways. The children shared some Valentine crafts, games, felt boards and stories about kindness, friends and all sorts of different love stories.

We are regularly making fabulous playdough creations and painting wonderful pictures so keep an eye out for beautiful artwork coming home with your little ones. We also regularly check on our little worm friends in our compost bin. Our little’s love them and often ask which ones are mommy’s, daddy’s and babies. I think because of our worm friends, the favourite book was Worm loves Worm. The felt board stories was a big hit at circle time this week with rainbow ice cream cones and little pigs rolling in mud.
